THE NEED FOR A NEW HALL
The previous Pavilion on the playing fields at Stoke Holy Cross was opened in 1983, it was constructed on a tight budget to meet the needs of the village at that time and until recently, had served the village well.
The Pavilion itself had become increasingly outdated. Not only in terms of its size and capacity to accommodate the demand for events and functions from a village the size that Stoke now is, but also because of its heating and insulation, and accessibility, which were well below the standards now expected of community buildings. The Pavilion’s main hall was too small to host leisure and community events for the size of village that now exists. The kitchen, toilets, and storage facilities were also all in need of major upgrades.
THE PROJECT STARTS
After nearly 10 years of planning the Parish Council is grateful for the support of the South Norfolk Council Community Infrastructure Fund, which provided matched funding to enable the project to get underway.
A 'first spade in the ground' event attended by Parish Councillors, South Norfolk District Council Portfolio holder for Stronger, Greener, Economy, Lisa Overton-Neal and its Managing Director Trevor Holden, and the contractors Draper and Nicholls, took place on 30th January, to formally announce the beginning of the build.
